Discover the truth concerning anorexia and eating disorders. Eating Disorders can be very destructive (see graphic anorexia photo), but we at The Center for Counseling & Health Resources, Inc. believe there is hope.
Anorexia is an increasing problem facing men, women and teens today. It is no longer a problem isolated to just younger women; it is an affliction that is growing in its reach and numbers to people of all ages and walks of life. Anorexia Nervosa is characterized by self-starvation and excessive weight loss. Symptoms include:
* Refusal to maintain body weight at or above a minimally normal weight for height, body type, age, and activity level
* Intense fear of weight gain or being “fat”
* Feeling “fat” or overweight despite dramatic weight loss
* Loss of menstrual periods
* Extreme concern with body weight and shape
